Redefining Self: A struggle for self-acceptance

--

Prose by: Eniola M. Edun |Zero Discrimination Day |March 1.

Being abused is traumatic enough, let alone the craving for acceptance.

Victims of abuse often crave acceptance from people, even if they must remain where love is no longer served.

With obvious doubts in their hearts, they wonder if anyone would ever accept them due to psychological and emotional insecurities.

It’s a strain to be isolated in the reintegration into society.

The fear of victim-blaming subdues their courage and it becomes self-consuming and brain draining.

Taking a stroll down their memory lane, the scenarios trigger self-hate and insecurities.

The silent plea for love becomes a loud prayer for amnesia.

Then they begin to question their audacity and hope. Do they interrogate the possibility of letting out their juicy side like a teabag in hot water?

They wish they could prioritize self-love and acceptance while leaving their past where it belongs.

If only they can learn to love and accept themselves, If only they can transform their challenges into opportunities. If only their experience can serve as a springboard.

The key to your emotional and psychological liberty is right before you.

If you weren’t afraid, what choice will you make?

Bury yourself in your past or rise above it?

The ball is in your court!

But, you need to choose wisely by embracing recovery and self-love!
