THE GREATEST LOVE
BY PELEMO AVA NYAJO
Hold my hand, twirl me around, please hold my hand. Kneel before me with a ring, color me surprised. It need not be a pricey proposal but propose marriage, propose eternity, propose a we. Even if I only see you once a week for the rest of my being, just let me be with you, I cannot do without the trail of your cologne, drawing maps around our house, with your morning routine.
You are what makes this structure of architecture a home. Color me home, your home. Come back, recline your back on my chest when you get back home, I will be waiting. That is all I will ever do until you fill this space. And if you don’t come to this place where I reside, I will find you, by road or rail, I won’t fail.
I will borrow wings from the singing… what do they call them… yes, humming birds, or even the eagle, if that means my feeble fingers get to feel you, I get to see you, experience and breathe you in, viewing you in all your sun-lit glory, glory be to God, Lord of all creation, beautification, I pray earnestly that these dreams come to fruition, my expectations will not be cut short, no this is not an obsession.
It is a holy incantation, recitation of love from my Bible of thoughts, wrought by the hands of my mind, you will be mine even if I have to find you, happiness, you will be mine, joy, you will be, peace, you will be, you will be mine. Even if I have to dig through gold mines to find you as bronze, if I have to mow all the lawns of doubt, take a new route to finding you. So you know that I’ll do anything to find you.
Don’t let me echo into the wind in vain, life is already too vain, don’t leave my veins straining into infinity, into inevitable death. If you don’t save me, who will? Dear me, where art thou? I just want myself back. I need you, sincerely, your body.
