YOU MATTER by Ololade Awaye

AFFIRMATIONS

Reading online, it is said that the average human possibly has around 70,000 thoughts per day. Breaking it down would simply mean some of these thoughts will be memories, lessons you learnt in the past, funny thoughts that would just make you smile and laugh and things you have to do or get for yourself. How many of these thoughts are actually negative or positive?

Affirmations are positive self-talk, statements or proposition the assertion that something truly exists. It’s basically about replacingg that negative thought with a more positive one, it takes time, effort, consistency, determination and practise to change your mental chatter. Your inner critic would be there to stop you at some point but the aforementioned would help you especially if it’s done daily and said out loud. You can decide to have your affirmations focused on a particular problem or it could be general.

As you repeat the affirmation, focus on the connection you are making with yourself in that very moment, it is absolutely not enough to mumble the words and repeat them half-heartedly, you need to mean and believe in what you are saying, talk to yourself just how you would talk to a friend in need.

Once you have broken your self-consciousness you will start to benefit.

Some general affirmations to help you stop the mental chatter that happens upstairs:

• My life is full of joy and happiness

• I am successful in my job

• It is not my job to control what others think

• My worth is not tied to my productivity

• Money comes into my life easily

• I release all of my worries

• I am in control of my thoughts

• I believe in myself

• I am at ease with my pain because I know it will heal soon

• I can accept compliments from others and know they are true

• I am human and it’s okay to make mistakes

• I am doing my best and that is enough

In the end affirmations can affect your inner talk, how you talk about yourself and how you describe yourself to others.

Just keep saying them until you are able to believe that they speak the truth about yourself.

Important note: Say your affirmations in the morning even when it is difficult to get the motivation to get out of bed or work and at night before you sleep, it will help your subconscious mind internalize the words faster and change how you think about yourself.

DO NOT FORGET THAT YOU MATTER.
